Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino and scores of other law-enforcement officials from around the country safely escaped after an explosion rocked a hotel in Nashville where they are attending a conference.
The National Sheriffs’ Association was hosting an annual conference at the hotel that was scheduled to end today.
Organizers canceled today’s scheduled events because of the explosion, according to their twitter account: About 5,000 people were evacuated after the explosion.
According to Digtriad.com, an early assessment concluded that a mechanical explosion had occurred behind an elevator.
Gaylord Entertainment Co. provided an update today on the explosion, saying authorities have confirmed the incident was mechanical in nature.
Initial estimates of the damages are less than $750,000.
