Former Gulf Cartel Boss, Jose Zuniga-Hernandez, withdrew a guilty plea made earlier this year for immigration and weapons charges.
Authorities say the 43-year-old, also known as “Comandante Wicho,” was ousted as the plaza boss of the cartel’s Matamoros operations. They say he was arrested last October near Santa Maria, in possession of cocaine and a gold-plated handgun. The defense alleges misconduct with Zuniga-Hernandez’ previous attorney. A trial date has not been set.
