Drug Bust in Unexpected Stash House

Several suspects, including a female, faced drug possession charges

this afternoon after police conducted a raid at an Edinburg home.

Acting on a tip, late Wednesday afternoon the Edinburg Police

Department’s Anti-Narcotics Team responded to a home at the 1000 block

of South 8th Street. Investigators searched the home and found 150

pounds of marijuana and packaging material inside the garage. Police

arrested Jessica Gamez, Michael Alaniz, Matthew Torres and Michael

Mendoza. They were arraigned this afternoon for felony possession of

marijuana. Police say, the drug found in the stash house was just part

of a large load. Elias Saldivar has lived in this neighborhood for

over 30 years. He tells FOX 2 NEWS he was shocked to hear about the

drug bust yesterday afternoon. Police tell FOX 2 NEWS, the suspects

are taking quiet neighborhoods by surprise picking houses like this

one to conduct their illegal business. The suspects received a bond

and were transported to the Hidalgo County Jail.
