Sergeant speaks publicly about Near Death Experience

Jacob de la Garza spoke today publicly for the first time about his near death experience in Afghanistan after a roadside bomb injured him and several soldiers on May 21, 2011, he then continued to save the lives of others.

The city board members presented a proclamation to our local hero, the Edinburg Chief of Police was honored to be a part of the ceremony.

Sergeant de la Garza has received the Marine’s medal of valor and the Purple Heart. He is described as a man of honor and integrity and a valley hero for putting his life on the line for others.
