The assault happened last night in La Joya, the Border Patrol agent was dragged several feet by an alleged human smuggler. According to US Border Patrol spokesperson, Rosalinda Huey, the agent was patrolling the area around 8 o’ clock last night when he spotted a suspicious vehicle near military road. The agent was able to pull out his weapon. The undocumented immigrants managed to escape and so did the drive of a white 4 door sedan; this incident comes a week after this command center was established to boost security “US Border Patrol agents have established permanent presence in the area, local residents say they do feel safer, however this is still considered a hot spot for human and drug smuggling.”
Cruz Emma Guerra, has lived here for almost 40 years, she tells Fox 2 News, most of the action happens at night as smugglers try to get their commodities through La Joya.
“I feel safe now that Border Patrol agents and deputies are patrolling the neighborhoods. I feel protected says Guerra who didn’t realize the agent was dragged a block away from her home.
Huey says Border Patrol agents are trained for this kind of incidents.
We’re told the Border Patrol agent suffered only minor injuries and is back at work. However, the agency continues to investigate the assault.
