The Hidalgo Fire Marshal’s office has been working long hours on fires caused by illegal burning. Monday was only the beginning of what could be a rough fire season for south Texas. County fire investigators determined the massive blaze that broke out in Alton was the result of someone burning trash. That person was cited, but may face additional charges if he is deemed liable for damages to nearby properties. In a similar case in Edinburgh, two other people were also fined. On Monday, we caught up with Margarita Estrada who prayed her sons home would not get engulfed in flames. Marco Antonio Romero works side by side with a canine officer that has been trained to pick up scents from flammable items, possibly used to start a fire. Despite favorable fire weather advisories, authorities continue to catch people sparking a match. Authorities will not take any chances. Romero says they will fine anyone for up to 500 dollars for each charge.
