Brownsville (KFXV) — Brownsville firefighters continue investigating a fire at the El Gardin hotel.

Officials say the hotel has been closed for several years. The fire blazed all the way to the rooftop located on the 1100 block of Levy Street. Firefighters say the low temperatures this weekend made the fire difficult to tame. They had to take breaks every 20 minutes to recuperate and after two hours and over 30 firefighters on scene, they were finally able to put out the blaze.

No reports of injuries during the incident.
Officials are still processing information in the case on what or whom might have caused the fire.
