A chase between a human smuggler and authorities came to an abrupt halt as the pick-up truck that transported 16 undocumented immigrants rolled over this morning.
The call regarding a suspicious vehicle loading suspected undocumented immigrants close to ebony and expressway 83 came in at around 7:10 am.
La Joya police pursued the vehicle after failing to halt at a stop sign.
The ford f-150 sped off and was pursued from La Joya to mission.
When the truck exited Bryan road, the driver — driven by Heberto Guerrero–lost control and the vehicle rolled over near the mission medical center.
Most of the 16 people on board survived the incident; three of them are at the mission medical center for treatment.
The undocumented immigrants were from Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico.
The driver is currently in police custody and is awaiting federal charges.
