00-pound woman appears before a judge via teleconference
November 13, 2008 | News
After months of discussing just how an 800-pound woman accused of murder would make a court appearance, an unconventional of method was finally devised.
Mayra Rosales, 27, appeared before a judge via video teleconference because her weight makes her unable to leave her home.
Rosales faces charges of hitting her 2-year-old nephew - Eliseo Gonzalez Jr. -to death.
Rosales’ image was cast on a wall during the hearing, while she talked with state district Judge Ricardo Rodriguez Jr. from her bed in Sullivan city.
Prosecutors allege that Rosales caused several bruises and fractures on her nephew that eventually led to his death.
She has denied the allegations and suggested that the injuries were already inflicted on the child even before he came to her house on March 18.
Rosales currently faces charges of capital murder and injury to a child. If convicted she could be facing life in prison.
